There are two things we need to know about regarding our diet. They are the fats and cholesterol. They can be found in the foods we eat and they could either keep our bodies healthy or promote health related problems. The human body stores fat as a form of fuel for muscles and organs. In other words, fat is used as a gas for the body’s engine. And just as there are different kinds of gasoline, there are also different kinds of fats that you can eat. The body uses some fats more efficient...

Summertime, especially in Asian countries like the Philippines, brings long days and lemonades and other enjoyable pleasures. It also brings heat and humidity. Because of this, many people fail to get nutritious meals. They prefer having a good swim at the beaches or pools instead of spending a hot day cooking in a hot kitchen.

Thinking, we ordinarily suppose, is something that goes on solely in the brain. But that is quite wrong. Thinking involves the entire body in a series of correlated nerve impulses that center in the brain. Particularly is this true when an emotion colors our thinking. When we say psychosomatic, it involves both the mind and the body. Emotional stress or damaging thought patters lead to psychosomatic illness. It then progresses with physical symptoms and a person’s immune system is comprom...

We often have difficulty in having a good night’s sleep. Because of that, we tend to have a few hours or less than six hours of sleep at night instead of the required seven to eight hours. Lack of sleep causes you to wake up the following morning feeling tired, or depressed, easily frustrated and even stressed out.

Because patience is not an innate virtue, young children must be taught the art of waiting for what they want. Because you are more experienced in knowing what’s best for your child, you’re more qualified to control when he can do what he wants to do and what conditions must be met before he does it. Explain these conditions clearly.

“Don’t talk to strangers” is an admonition millions of parents give to their young children. The warning is valid because the world is no longer a safe place especially for young children. Children need to learn how to behave with strangers, just as they need to learn how to interact with family, friends, and acquaintances. When you’re with your child, minimize her fear of strangers by teaching her how to be friendly to people she doesn’t know. At the same time, teach her what to do whe...

Most of us are concerned with our health, thus, causing us to be conscious of what to eat and what not to eat. Sometimes we are often tempted to buy expensive natural food supplements to be certain that we get nutrients that our body needs. But aren’t there common and basic everyday things around us that we can use instead of taking them for granted? Sweet potatoes, for instance, are one of those we ignore and think of them as less important things or food.

Just as we, adults, find ourselves in a bad mood for no apparent reason, children are sometimes whiny and cranky even though their physical needs have been met. If your child is always whining, it is because she wants attention or wants her own way. One way to stop them doing this is to ignore them even if it seems impossible to do it. Your child will soon learn that asking nicely speaks louder than being whiny and cranky.

Because time has no meaning to a child under six years old, hurrying has no great advantages. Disguise urging your child to “come on” or “please hurry” by running races with her or by giving her chances to run to your arms. Turn instructions into fun, not frustrating orders. Let your child feel she’s in control of how slow or fast she does things, so she won’t need to dawdle to exert influence over the pace of events.
